...is looking great by me. Did the prices bottom out on them recently or something?

Love MGBs. Scared to own one, but love them.

Prices seem to have gone down. Anybody who wants a roadster, has bought a Miata. The only reason to own an MGB is if you want to punish yourself with british car ownership. Rubber bumper models are going $4-6k for a decent-ish one. Chrome bumpers are going $8-15k for a nice one.
*I very much want to punish myself with british car ownership.

I've worked on a handful and a TR6 over the summers I worked at my grandfather's garage. They can be finicky, but aren't particularly hard to work on and parts availability is probably second to only the Beetle. If you want one, go for it! They are a blast to drive, especially overdrive GT's.

Rust, rust, rust. Watch out for it. This is coming from a Fiat guy.
They are a great deal and easy enough to keep running. Some of these will need new tires and suspension, then you look at leaking seals. But if you don't mind the work you are ok

I've heard MG electronics are downright fantastic by British classic standards.

I wouldn't be so scared of them to be honest. They're pretty much the perfect starter classic, especially over here in the UK.
One thing I've noticed about British classic cars in particular is that they're designed specifically with ease of maintenance in mind. The ones I've worked on have always had oodles of space around the parts that are commonly replaced/fettled with, much moreso than the 914/6 and X1/9 we've got and a random chap's broken down 911 I tried to get started in the pub carpark yesterday.
I've spoken to my dad about it, who's owned a host of Lancias, Alfas, Porsches and more through the years, and he echoes the sentiment.

$8-15k for an MGB? Bloody hell. Over here you can pick up a running rubber-bumper for a shade over a grand, and a reasonable chrome-bumper for £3000.
£6-12k is slightly ratty factory V8 money.
Anyone want to start up an export business with me?

Aside from the small issue of it being rhd, I would love to import a MGB from England.
